La Decima – Hostel like accommodations

Watching my dineros, I have now went below $20 USD for accommodations, super close to downtown core, hostel like and semi family house. The hosts (three partners), two of which spoke good English had lots of good information about the area. I had a private room, shared bath.

My stroll around that afternoon till sunset was delightful, a pretty city, plenty of families strolling about in the downtown promenade. Churros, I spotted Churros, not as good as the ones in Puerto Vallarta, still good though. I was wee disappointed that some fast food chains had dominated the promenade, I was hoping for more authentic Mexican cuisine. My exploratory stroll took me beyond the downtown core where I found my Mexican flavor, can never get enough Tamales. Found blocks and blocks of shopping stalls, again, a reminder of space issues traveling on motorcycle, so no purchases there. I can can see another visit to this city for more exploration.

The hosts were concerned about my motorcycle parking, there were homeless people and poor that will do almost anything to survive, again, this is like most of the big cities I’ve visited, so I was not as concerned as the hosts. I did however friended a parking coordinator that worked for a hospital nearby while I was having my dinner at a street food vendor across from the hospital. I asked if he can find a space for my bike and he quickly found a spot in front of the main doors, wow, fortuitous or what? Best Pesos tip ever spent, a good night sleep knowing the 24hr hospital had traffic and even the local Policia was aware the bike belong to me.

You have to take advantage of what you get when traveling. After a long ride in the heat, cooling off was a priority and having the whole pool to myself was a bonus. This hidden gem was sort of difficult to find, but worth the effort.

Hermosillo

This next stop was a no brainer as my decision towards north is now weighing heavy on my mind. Watching the radar forecasts, I had to plan my route so that I can make it back to Canada before snow completely engulfs my route. From Chihuahua to Hermosillo, the route proved to be my favorite ride. I thought the Skyline Drive or the Blue Ridge Parkway was good, well, let me tell you this section had twist and turns that causes scratches under your foot pegs, plus the scenery of cactus, valleys, cliffs, canyon walls and deserts all rolled together. Learning my lesson on fuel, I took no chances here, whenever I saw a fueling station, I rolled in, it proved to be worthwhile in resting your body and at one stretch, I did not spot a station for at least two and half hours, my limit on range can be three and half hour to maybe four depending on how much you punch the throttle.

Another interesting place to park my bike, rolled up to the hotel and checked in and inquired about where to park. The front desk clerk said to put it in front of my door. The scene here is the front door of my room is facing a swimming pool and a courtyard of the lobby of the hotel, not a road or a parking lot. The doorman/security proceeded to open the front doors to let me drive through to my room. Another night not worrying about my bike, another moment that I should have filmed this.

Quick dip in the pool and then off to find some local food. I found this city to feel like an American city, big grand hotels, streets wide and restaurants and pubs flashy. I was determined to find my local delights, it took a few kilometres of walking, but I was successful. Part of being in a new country is tasting their local delicacies, so I try my hardest to avoid the big franchises. I might have to say, Mexican cuisine is on my top five #foodie delights.

Sad morning as I head towards the border into Arizona…
