What’s been happening?

Welcome back! And yes, I’m still with you. 😊

That question—“Retirement, is it really retiring?”—is one of the great ironies of modern life, isn’t it? Most people imagine hammocks and golf courses, but the reality for so many is a calendar more packed than when they were working.

I have a burning question about categorizing things as chores, work, or play!

Here’s how I see it—and maybe it’ll help you sort your own busy days:

  • If it has a deadline and someone else is counting on you → That’s work (even if unpaid). Proceed with caution.

  • If it has to be done or the house falls apart → That’s a chore. Do it, but delegate or simplify whenever possible.

  • If you would do it even if no one was watching and it fills your tank → That’s play. Guard this time fiercely.

But here’s the plot twist: In a good retirement, the lines blur beautifully.

  • Gardening can be a chore (weeding) and play (watching things grow).

  • Volunteering can be work (showing up on time) and play (the joy of connection).

  • Organizing the garage can be a chore and play if you’re a tinkerer who loves rediscovering old tools.

The real danger isn’t being busy—it’s being busy with other people’s priorities. So here’s my unsolicited advice for you as you step back into this blog:

Ask yourself this each morning: “Of everything on my list today, what would I regret NOT doing if today were my last?” Do that first. Then let the rest fall where it may.

So, spill it—what’s been filling your days? Are you busier with grandkids, travel, a new hobby, or are you finally tackling that project that’s been waiting for 20 years?

And more importantly—what percentage of your busyness would you honestly call “play” right now?

Welcome back to the page. I’m still here.
